See, here is the problem: I can practice my Deutsch with writing, but unless a someone corrects every single word/error that is incorrect (which is most) I don't necessarily learn anything. That's the problem. "Oh just use it it'll get better." Not true. It needs to be used correctly.

Wenn du in Deutsch schreibst, dann bist du gezwungen, in Deutsch zu denken und das wird dich lehren, besser zu sprechen und zu schreiben.

Das ist beim Saxophonspiel nicht anders. Du kannst es spielen, wenn du es denken kannst (-:

Some (ok, many) years ago I spent 4 months cycling through Scotland and Ireland. All the while talking only english. After a few weeks I started thinking in english too.
Coming back home, I used German words with english grammar. It took Weeks to get rid of this.

 

HAHAH! That's fantastic! And I totally admire your adventure-biking. I've always wanted to do it but I'm too scared to camp by myself in the middle of nowhere. I know, <---lame. Cheers!

Well to be honest: Most of the time I opted for the posh life style and slept in Hostels. After a long day of cycling through the lonely scottish highlands, there is nothing better than a hot shower, someone to talk to and a real bed.
Not to mention the possibillity of a Pub with a cozy fireplace

 

My dad went hiking in Scottland too when he was in his twenties. However, it was impossible for him to have a beer at the time because there were so many midges around - anything you'd try to drink that contained even a bit of sugar would turn black within seconds.



Remove the T and you've got quit a descriptive melody.

 

That‘s why the Pub and the open fireplace are so important. No Midges indoors or near a smoking fire

 

UGH! My wife and I went to SW Ireland two years ago and were unaware of the Midgey-Delight that would be part of all of our meals and outdoor time. Miserable..!

 

I prefer visiting Ireland in winter. Brilliant light, less tourists and no Midges at all

 

That sounds like a win-win to me!
